Paul Mullon, FIIM

PauPaul is an Information Governance consultant. Whilst this is a relatively new term it encompasses a range of traditional activities, from Records and Information Management through to complex Content and Knowledge Management implementations. He has a diverse background which allows him to bring this multi-facted perspective to the industry.

His academic background is in business management; he has a B. Com (Hons), and an MBA. This background means that he clearly understands how and why Information must support business and its processes and operations. He has been in the computer or information industry for over 24 years, having worked for a number of South African leading companies. In the early stages of his career he was technically involved in the computer industry, providing operating and application system support to mainframe and mini-computer customers. Although no longer as involved in the details of the technology, this background gives him a unique view into how systems work and integrate with the business.

During the last 18 years he has been involved in workflow, document and records management implementations and solutions to many of South Africa’s corporations. This focus on the Enterprise Content Management arena has allowed him to build specialist knowledge on all aspects of the field. He has worked in both the paper and electronic document and records management environments, giving him great insight into both, and how they interact in the real world. His engagements have included Government and private sector organisations.

He has presented at many conferences and workshops, and has published over 200 articles on these subjects
Mr Mullon is a frequent member of ARMA and AIIM, and is very involved in standards development for document management applications and records management at both South African and international levels. In 2005 Mr Mullon was appointed as the world-wide Convenor of an ISO working group for the Long Term Preservation of Electronic Records. In addition he is Chairman of the South African Technical Committee for Document Management Applications which looks at document and records management technology standards.

He is the Founding Member of CORConcepts, an information management consultancy.
